The political landscape of Delta State is witnessing a transformative shift as over 50 political groups have rallied behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege ahead of the 2027 elections. This movement, fueled by Tinubu’s bold economic reforms and Omo-Agege’s exemplary leadership, signals the dawn of a new era for Delta State and its people.
President Tinubu’s economic reforms, though initially met with challenges, are already yielding positive results across Nigeria. His decisive removal of fuel subsidies and strategic fiscal restructuring have laid the groundwork for a more stable and prosperous economy. These policies reflect a leader who prioritizes long-term solutions over short-term appeasement—a quality Delta State desperately needs in its own leadership. Omo-Agege, on the other hand, has proven himself as a beacon of hope for the Delta APC. His tenure as Deputy Senate President from 2019 to 2023 was characterized by impactful legislative contributions and strategic positioning of the party. Many Deltans believe his achievements have far outweighed those of Ike Ekweremadu, who spent over 12 years in the same office without leaving a comparable legacy. This recognition has sparked a groundswell of support from youths and political stakeholders alike, with many vowing to take Omo-Agege’s campaign beyond the borders of Delta State. With three APC senators currently representing Delta State and the support of former Delta North Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, the prospects for a resounding victory for Tinubu and Omo-Agege in 2027 are brighter than ever. These developments are a testament to the growing belief that Delta State can no longer afford to lag behind in infrastructure and development.
However, as we chart this new course, we must confront the failures of the past. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is under intense scrutiny for his role in approving massive funds during his tenure as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly under the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. Allegations suggest that these funds, which could have been used to construct over 25 flyovers or a mono-rail system connecting key areas of the state, were mismanaged or looted. Instead, Deltans have been presented with a single flyover constructed by Julius Berger, connecting key junctions like Osubi, Ughelli, Port Harcourt, and Warri. While the project is commendable, it barely scratches the surface of what could have been achieved with the alleged misappropriated funds. Deltans deserve answers about why the state’s infrastructure lags so far behind its potential and why such massive resources appear to have been squandered. It is heartening to see Deltans demanding accountability and questioning the administration’s commitment to their welfare. This political awakening must be sustained. I, therefore, call on other interest groups to follow suit, spring up, and queue behind Omo-Agege and Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections. Without fear, let us align ourselves with leaders who have demonstrated their commitment to progress and development.
The 2027 elections represent an opportunity for Delta State to rewrite its story. Tinubu’s reforms are already providing a solid foundation for economic recovery, and Omo-Agege’s leadership offers a clear path to transformative governance. Let us seize this moment to build a Delta State we can all be proud of—a state where transparency, accountability, and development take center stage.
Delta’s political revolution is not just a possibility; it is a necessity. Together, we can ensure that this movement translates into tangible progress for all.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Nigeria following his impactful engagements at the 2025 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. Representing the country at the prestigious global summit, the Vice President showcased Nigeria’s vast investment opportunities while advocating for African economic integration and sustainable growth.
In a forum titled “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets”, organized by the African Development Bank and WEF, VP Shettima underscored Nigeria’s readiness to attract capital for transformative development. He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), emphasizing the role of digital trade in driving the continent’s economic transformation. Highlighting Africa’s potential, the Vice President projected a $29 trillion economy for the continent by 2050.During bilateral discussions with leaders such as Botswana’s President Duma Boko and South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, VP Shettima focused on strengthening intra-African relations and fostering partnerships to boost trade and development. Similarly, his meetings with the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and WEF President Børge Brende revolved around collaborative solutions to Africa’s pressing challenges, including energy security, food crises, and climate change.Speaking on Nigeria’s reform agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, VP Shettima highlighted key economic measures such as subsidy removal, exchange rate alignment, and tax reforms, stating that these initiatives are paving the way for sustained economic growth.
The Vice President’s participation also included panel discussions like the “Financial Times Global Risks 2025” dialogue, where he advocated multilateral collaboration to address global crises. Additionally, he championed innovation in education and agriculture to empower Nigeria’s youth and accelerate economic progress.Accompanied by top government officials, including Honorable Minister of Finance Mr. Wale Edun, VP Shettima returned to Abuja to a warm reception from Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Zulum and other dignitaries at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. This successful engagement at WEF 2025 reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to driving regional integration, economic innovation, and sustainable development on the global stage.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved ₦4 billion for conditional cash transfers to support vulnerable households across the country. This initiative, announced by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Yilwada, targets at least 10 million displaced and struggling families nationwide, with a special focus on those in the conflict-ridden Northeast. Set to commence in February and continue through April, the program will provide direct financial relief to households severely impacted by displacement, economic hardship, and insecurity. Internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and other vulnerable groups have been prioritized as beneficiaries.
The Federal Government has also allocated an additional ₦2 billion for interest-free loans to farmers in rural areas. These loans, ranging between ₦300,000 and ₦400,000 per household, aim to enhance food security by enabling farmers to purchase necessary tools, seeds, and fertilizers, while creating access to market opportunities for their produce.mProfessor Yilwada described the program as a cornerstone of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s efforts to alleviate poverty and reduce the socio-economic challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians. “This program is a testament to our unwavering commitment to uplifting the vulnerable and addressing the root causes of poverty in Nigeria,” the Minister said while unveiling the initiative.
The cash transfer program is modeled on global examples, such as Brazil’s Bolsa Família and India’s Direct Benefit Transfer programs, both of which have significantly improved household welfare and reduced poverty. Experts argue that Nigeria’s version, if properly implemented, could achieve similar success by stimulating local economies and empowering beneficiaries. This intervention comes amid growing public concerns over the removal of fuel subsidies and the subsequent rise in inflation. While commending the government for its proactive approach, civil society organizations have urged transparency in disbursing the funds to ensure they reach those most in need. As the rollout approaches, citizens remain optimistic that the initiative will not only provide immediate relief but also create pathways for economic recovery and stability for Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations. “The FG’s cash transfer program is not just a response to hardship; it is a beacon of hope for millions seeking a better future,” the Minister concluded, reiterating the government’s resolve to prioritize social welfare initiatives.
